Tracking Popularity
Look, you can poll all you want, but at the end of the day, it’s not easy to track how popular one thing is versus another; Be it a thing, person or event, it’s hard science. But if there was one key indicator of popularity, it might be Google Trends. It let’s you graph and compare the results of specific search terms. Key points in the graph are annotated with stories from that date aggregated from Google News.
Comparing the search terms ‘obama’ vs. ‘clinton’ and following the news it’s no surprise looking at these results that Sen. Obama’s search popularity has outpaced Sen. Clinton’s since past Dec-Jan.
If you don’t take them too seriously, tracking stats like this can be an interesting accessory to the events we notice in our daily lives.
