Give and Get

BusinessWeek reports on the OLPC’s initiative to sell bundles of XO laptops, one for the purchaser and one to be donated, in a two week span this November. The move came after the OLPC group recognized the buzz around the XO and after a few “verbal” deals with developing nations fell through. (Why anyone would put any stock in a verbal agreement of this magnitude is beyond me.)

While I’m tempted to get one, I feel the promotion would be much better received if the donator and the recipient could communicate directly with each other via their XO’s. How great would it be to actually see the smile of a child who’s got a shiny new laptop and the means to live a much improved life now thanks to you?
